Kowhaiwhai Panels

Thank you to Mrs Dykes who took us for this cool art unit inspired by Reuben Paterson.  It was good to make links with our maths learning on transformation and our art.

More fantastic Hero enlargements

Great fundraising effort on the Cake Stall yesterday!

Thank you to all of the fantastic families who supported Room 7's first cake stall for 2015.  We were lucky to raise over $280 to go towards our summer camp.
Big thanks to all the parents who baked for the stall, the goodies were amazing and an easy sell!

Caritas Challenge

Let's put Room 7 on the map big time over the next week and a bit with our generous contributions for our Pacfic neighbours.

Here we are on the 20th of March, where will we be 27th?

Our Chinese Song

At our language lesson with Wendy on Wednesday we learnt a song to practise our learning.  The boys thought they were pretty good, take a peak and see what you think?

Our Caritas and Philippines link

Yesterday Room 6 & 7 had the privilege of having Aline and Paul Ciron come and talk to us about their life experiences in the Philippines.  It was really interesting hearing about their typhoon experiences and how they prepared for these regular weather occurrences.

As we work together during the season of Lent we are supporting the Philippines with our alms giving in association with Caritas New Zealand.

Keep the donations rolling in!

It was an amazing feeling when ......

Writing about a positive life experience:

As we jogged onto the pitch I felt as though my heart was in my mouth, something was eating away at my insides.  I gaze up alert and ready for the ball, I see the bowler sprinting down towards me ball in hand.  Watching the ball closely I step towards the ball, I hear the almighty crack, my heart sinks I feel like my legs are lead.  I snap my head back as relief floods through my body as I watch the ball race towards the boundary for four.

Next ball is speeding right for my toes, I flick it away for a single.  Five runs I tell myself, forty-five more to go.  Four dot balls later its the end of the over, that went quicker than I thought.  Twenty quick runs later, six more overs gone and its a loopy spin bowler, my favourite.  First ball, crack right out of the middle of my bat but fielded on the boundary, two runs, next ball, bang six runs!

Sixteen runs later, forty-nine runs.  I'm more nervous than I've ever been in my life.  Its back to the opening bowler.  He runs up and heaves the ball down at me, I middle it right down to the boundary, fifty-five runs.  Job done.

Sailing with Rodger

On Wednesday the 4th of March 2015 a group of Room 7 went to the Otago Yacht Club to learn how to sail.

We first learnt how to set up the the mast, we went and got changed then the best part of the day, sailing.  We went out to the harbour and sailed round. Thor and Dylan jumped off the boats.

A big thank you to Rodger our instructor from Yachting New Zealand, also to our parent helpers Cindy and Bryan and Mrs Baines for making this possible.

Fitness Fun - Whole School Skipping

Four days a week we have fitness altogether.  This term  we are doing skipping.
We skip in our whanau groups.

My favourite part of skipping is being a leader because you get to take the littles ones and teach them how to skip.  Later in the year for fitness we get teach them again when we lead Jump Jam.

Sailing day 1

On Wednesday the 4th of March Room 7 went sailing. There were 10 of us including Sam, Thomas, Thor, Ben, Dylan, Jonty, Kayla, Akayla, Emma and Caitlin. The other people in the class went on Thursday.  It was perfect conditions for sailing all day.

.

Some people tipped their boat over so they got towed by a bigger boat.  The day was fun.  I can't wait for next year.

Sailing is fun!  For the Year 6's you better be ready for next year.

Positive Experiences

We had to use a given sentence starter and write about a positive experience we have had which was between 80 - 120 words.  We followed the writing process of planning, drafting, editing, proof-reading and publishing.   Check out Sam's experience below:

As a class we edited Sam's draft and this is our class effort.  Thank you Sam for allowing us to use your draft for our shared writing.
